TV

Since the beginning of 2020, TV usage is measured exclusively with audio matching measurement technique applied using TC UMX. The measurement devices generate audio samples at the TV set and compare them against broadcasters’ audio samples generated at central referencing sites. The matched signals are assigned to a broadcaster.

Time-shifted usage

Since July 2009 AGF Videoforschung has included time-shifted usage  of recorded television programming in its data. Time-shifted usage includes usage that takes place within three days after the broadcasting day, for instance linear television programming that was recorded on digital devices (DVD recorders, hard-drive recorders, and HD recorders).

Out-of-home viewing

Monitoring of out-of-home viewing  also began in July 2009. Unlike in-home viewing, this cannot be monitored by installed stationary measurement devices. For this reason, television usage by guests in panel households (guest usage) is defined as out-of-home viewing. The guest logs in using the personal button at the remote control and enters their age and sex. Their TV usage is integrated in the panel data using a merger process that takes into account socio-demographic similarities between donor and recipient panelists.
