Glossary
From A for AGF Videoforschung to Z for zapping, the most important technical terms in video research are explained here.
HbbTV is an acronym that stands for Hybrid Broadcast Broadband Television. By supplementing and combining existing standards such as DVB and Internet technologies, this standard makes it possible for a TV set or set-top box to receive and display special, HbbTV-conformant websites. It features TV-specific functions such as navigation with RC keys and background control of the broadcast video. An HbbTV website is signaled via the broadcast channel. Data can be transmitted both via the broadcast channel and via the Internet.
HD+ is a programming service of the satellite operator SES ASTRA, which can only be received via the ASTRA satellite. It enables programmes of various private broadcasters to be broadcast in HD quality.
HDMI is an acronym that stands for High-Definition Interface. This is an interface for the digital transmission of audio and video data in entertainment electronics.

HDTV is an acronym that stands for High-Definition Television. This technology delivers higher image resolution and thus better image quality on TV sets. Special HD receivers, which are already integrated into TV sets in some cases, are needed to receive these images.
The term describes, in the context of so-called broadcaster constructs or sales constructs, the overarching broadcaster (the “head channel”) that comprises the aggregated performance metrics of its underlying channels. Head channels consist of individual channels (sub-channels), and depending on the type of channel construct (e.g. simultaneous broadcasting), usage (performance metrics) is aggregated. In the case of time-shift constructs (time-delayed broadcasting of content on the head channel and sub-channels), it is not possible to calculate market shares for the head channel. Examples of channel constructs include VOX with VOX (original) and VOXup, as well as SUPER RTL with SUPER RTL (original) and TOGGO plus.
HKP is an acronym that stands for Household-Keeping Person. It refers to the person in the household who performs most of the housekeeping.
For AGF Videoforschung, hybrid measurement represents a forward-looking and indispensable approach to accurately and comprehensively capture media usage. This combines the strengths of a representative panel measurement with the possibilities of large usage data sets. For many years, AGF has successfully relied on this hybrid principle with streaming measurement and has also used the proven structure in the development of X-REACH.
In the international context, hybrid measurement—especially in cross-media campaign measurement—is considered state of the art. Building on these experiences, future TV measurement will also be enriched by integrating extensive usage data, enabling a better representation of the fragmented content landscape.
